ARE YOU READY

FOR A JOURNEY BY EAR?

CITIES TALK invites you to listen to the conversation of 8 European cities, it also provides a new way of travelling: It’s a journey by ear.

Whenever you walk through a city, you will hear different sounds. You hear a constant interplay between the physical environment and other sound, which is created by people or by living species. This dynamic interaction is a kind of conversation. Environmental sounds are inseparable from the locations and combined with all other sounds it creates an overall atmosphere. It represents the city's character with regards to its soundscape.

“The sound we hear isn't the only attribute, which creates the city's character. Sight and smell are important parts as well. But especially seeing things, sometimes distracts us from attentive listening. That's why I want to concentrate on the only sense hearing.”

LET THE CITIES TALK

With CITIES TALK I want to create a new conversation. During my visits I have focused on sounds, which you can mostly only hear in the respective city or which creates this kind of city sound character.

You are warmly invited to join me, feel free to take a little break. My recommendation would be to use headphones and to close your eyes, being present in the moment and imagine the places, which you will hear.

WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM IT?

With CITIES TALK I want to create a unique sound experience, it may be used in many different ways. It is my intention to take you on a special trip from one European city to the next one, to demonstrate the different sound character. I want to stimulate your interest in these European cities, enhance your creativity and to give you the opportunity to take a break from everyday life.

Accordingly, it can be used in any meditation places. It also can be applied for educational purposes in schools regards Area Studies. Another possibility would be for the tourism market to promote the cities, which are presented. Theme design hotels have the opportunity to play it as well and it may replace elevator music. Art installations and any other events, which refer to the introduced cities, could benefit from it as well.
